ENHANCING ON AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS OUTPUT THROUGH ORGANIC FARMING

AASP is an initiative of Elia foundation for Community Development that is aimed at extending agriculture advisory services to fermers more especially in the rural communities in kasese district. Services are devlivered in form of seed disrtibution to famers, training farmers in organic sustainable farming approaches and kitchen gardening, and livestock with a focus on economic empowerement and rural livelihood. The foundation under this programme is aimed at addressing the increasing coanstraints that results out of environmental degradation in the district with rapid deforestation, extensive soil erosion, declining agricultural products and human suffering. Methods and activities employed are thus focused on the following objectives.

• To strengthen the capacities of rural  communities to assess local needs, and to plan, implement and evaluate activities for rural resources mobilisation and management with a view to improve on the rural agriculture for purposes of food security, nutrition and income generation.
• To increase understanding and raising awareness among rural farmers on the hazards that result out of over utilization of inorganic farming supplements plus skills on how to make and usage of organic fertlizers and pesticides.
• To increase on food security abilities through training in kitchen gardening and livestock management improved livelihood and income generation.
• Enhancing on crops productivity trough training of rural farmers on natural resources development and management with emphasis on usage of organic supplements with a view to coserve and improve on soil fertility and the environment at large.
•  Enhancing on and imparting rural farmers with better organic sustainable farming skills that contributes to soil fertility, environmental conservation and increased agricultural output for support, nutrition and commercial purposes.
• Supplementing on rural farmers efforts towards sustainable organic farming agricultural practices that enhances on poverty alleviation and rural livelihood, improved standards of living and health, economic stability of rural farmers at individual and household levels that fosters community development

• Supporting farmers with livestock enterprises
• Trainings on sustainable agriculture approaches with emphasis on organic farming.
• Agro-forestry. (Providing farmers with livelihood trees such as edible acacia, orchard trees etc).

• Increased qualitative and quantitative food production for nutrition and commercial purposes
• High level of food security thus reduced hunger and poverty
• A conserved environment with high level of soil fertility.
• Reduced impact of chemical fertilizers and pesticides on farm workers and environment.
